A table stolen from one of the painting rooms at Portland State University, Ceci N'est Pas Un Tableaux is an art work abstracted and a radical action. It was removed from its intended environment of the school, stripped of its utilitarian aspects, and aesthetically re-appropriated to now exist in the PSU presidential office. This was created during a time when budget cuts were running deeper than usual at the school, which hit the humanities and art departments the most. It was a means of elevating a banal object from what the school was considering a lower rung of the institution, and allow it transcend to its highest point, the presidential office.
